Episode 01: Moving to Canada from the UK

Our first day in Canada!

In November 2024, we left behind everything we knew — jobs, routine, and the grey skies of Britain — and boarded a one-way flight to Canada. Neither of us had ever stepped foot in the country before. And yet, something about the call of the mountains, the pull of the wild, and the promise of a different kind of life made the decision feel simple.

Scott had actually planned this move before we met — a solo journey booked through Global Work and Travel. But as our relationship quickly deepened, the idea of going alone didn’t sit quite right. So Lyta did what many dream about but few actually do: she said yes to the unknown. We took the leap together.

Why We Left the UK

Don’t get us wrong — there’s plenty we hold dear about the UK. From laughter-filled moments with friends and family, to hikes in the Lake District, camping escapes in West Wales, and chasing the sun along Cornwall’s rugged coast. But life there was noisy, crowded, expensive, and frankly a bit too grey for our liking. We found ourselves yearning for more space, more stillness, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

We're both deeply outdoorsy — we live for mountains, lakes, trails, stars, campfires, and cold plunges. So when we looked at a map and asked, “Where can we find it all?” — the answer was loud and clear: British Columbia.

Canada offered what we were missing. A slower pace. A wilder backdrop. A fresh start. Sometimes you just need to switch time zones, change postcodes, and put yourself in unfamiliar places to really grow. And that’s exactly what this move was about.

How We Did It — With Help From Global Work and Travel

We didn’t just throw ourselves across the Atlantic without a plan. We had jobs and staff accommodation lined up before we even landed, thanks to Global Work and Travel — a company that helps you live and work abroad with confidence.

They take care of the logistics: visa assistance, job placement, housing support, airport transfers, a personal trip coordinator, and even pre-departure calls to get your head straight before you go. For us, it took a huge weight off our shoulders knowing we’d hit the ground running.

And as two people who value freedom and flexibility but still appreciate structure, Global Work and Travel struck the perfect balance. They gave us a secure landing — and then let us build our own adventure from there.
